Hurricane Irene is expected to reach the North Eastern US by early Sunday, August 28th, impacting flight operations at EWR, LGA, JFK, PHL and BOS airports. The major US based carriers (AA, DL, UA/CO) have announced that they will start cancelling flights from the mentioned airports on Saturday through to Monday morning.
Other international carriers have not yet made such announcements and are expected to operate normally on Saturday, but depending on the final track and intensity of Irene, cancellations and delays on Sunday and possibly into Monday are very likely.
Sea Freight shipping is also expected to be delayed, many sea ports on the East Coast have stopped receiving or delivering empty containers due to wind speeds, however gates remain open for loaded dry boxes and loaded reefers until the Hurricane intensifies.
An update of the situation will be forthcoming on Monday, August 29th.
